Leading With Conviction

Yesterday I spent the day with Paul Berthiaume, pastor of Jacob's Well Church in Eau Claire.    Paul talked a great deal about leading by conviction rather than leading by people pleasing.   I am still processing what Paul talked about during the day.

Paul shared with us that building on vision is much more important than giving way to strong opinions.   I sense in so much of my ministry that I have given in to people to make peace rather than provide strong leadership.    The place I was serving suffered because I did not lead with conviction.

I see that Jacob's Well has continued to grow over the years and has seen hundreds of people come to Christ.    The leadership being provided by their leaders is seeing many lives changed.  My prayer is that I will see their example and put it into practice.

How To Develop a Powerful Prayer Life

Over the past month I have been reading books by Greg Frizzell.   One book that I have read is How To Develop a Powerful Prayer Life.   At our meeting on January 22 this book was given out to all the people who were in attendance.

In this book Dr. Frizzell challenges us as Christians to have a fervent prayer life.   One element that is emphasized in having a quality prayer life is to have a time of cleansing.   A suggestion that he gives is to confess the different types of sin in our lives.   Here are some categories:

Sins of Speech
Sins of Thoughts and Attitude
Sins of Relationships
Sins of Commission
Sins of Omission

As I have read the book and been putting it into practice the time of cleansing has been made much more meaningful.   God has been convicting me of specific sin in my life.    My time with God has become more powerful and I have been taking longer with my quiet time.

I highly recommend this book to you and other books by Greg Frizzell.  You can order this book and other books by Frizzell at http://www.masterdesign.org.   This blog is not meant to be a commercial but an exhortation to make your sin real in your life and come closer to Jesus through meaningful confession.
